How do I book an initial consultation?

Call 403-948-0009 to set up an appointment. WA Lawyers is located in Airdrie, Alberta at 225 1st Avenue NW and appointments are usually scheduled on weekdays between 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM and from 1:00 PM to 4:30 PM.

What will be discussed during the initial consultation?

Legal issues can be very intimidating. Our first objective is to help you understand your legal rights with respect to your matter. After this, our objectives are to decide what information is needed to prepare the needed transactional documents or to determine the strength of your case, to assess the potential risks and rewards involved in pursuing the transaction or case, to determine whether your matter is something for which you should retain a lawyer and, lastly, to discuss how much it may cost to complete. After you have this information you will be better equipped to decide how to best proceed.

What are the firm’s areas of practice?

As Airdrie’s most established and experienced law firm, WA Lawyers is able to offer legal services in a variety of practice areas including commercial/business transactions, civil litigation, family, real estate, wills and estates, and intellectual property.

What is a retainer and is it required?

In the majority of cases a retainer is required, generally between $2000 and $5000 depending on the complexity of the matter. A retainer is a lump-sum of money that is deposited into a lawyer’s trust account to ensure the prompt payment of legal fees. The retainer fee is kept in the lawyer’s trust account and is only paid to the lawyer after the client has been billed for actual legal services provided. Any funds left over are returned to the client. If, in your initial appointment, you agree to retain one of our lawyers on a matter you will be asked to provide the appropriate retainer amount and to sign a retainer agreement.

How much does your firm charge?

It depends on the type of file. At your first appointment, one of our lawyers will give you a clear assessment of what you may expect your legal matter to cost based on the following. For common business and real estate transactions, wills, and family matters (such as an uncontested divorce) our firm charges a standard flat fee so you will know exactly how much your matter should cost to complete. For flat fee services, we generally require the entire amount in the form of a retainer. For more complicated matters such as civil litigation, contentious family matters, or complex business transactions involving negotiation, the firm charges a competitive hourly rate and will generally require a $1000-$2000 retainer. We will promptly let you know if more retainer funds need to be deposited as your matter proceeds.
